About Us

In 2013 British Swimming were awarded the 33rd LEN European Swimming Championships and European Masters Swimming Championships 2016 to be held at the London Aquatics Centre on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. British Swimming worked in partnership with the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), Greater London Authority (GLA), UK Sport and London and Partners to develop the successful bid and plan to deliver a world-class event in an ambitious events city which is now ranked number 1 in the world for sport events (Sportcal).

The European Swimming Championships is the main continental meet on the world stage, bringing together top athletes across Swimming, Diving and Synchronised Swimming disciplines. It is staged biennially and will form a major benchmark ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio and is central to the high performance strategy.

There will be up to 1000 athletes representing 38 countries competing over 12 days of competition to be followed by 5 days of Masters Competition with 4,000 athletes from across Europe.
